HISTORY

The fundamental purposes espoused by the founders of ASPE in our Articles of Incorporation which were filed in the State of California on May 3, 1957, read in part:

“The specific and primary purposes for which this corporation is formed is to encourage a more extensive use of Professional Estimators by Architects, Engineers, Contractors, Public Bodies, and other owners contemplating construction of any nature by:

 (1)      Encouraging and assisting in the adoption of laws licensing and registering of qualified estimators.

(2)      Encouraging and adopting a set of Professional Standards to be subscribed to by Professional Estimators.

(3)      Furthering policies of a beneficial nature to the Construction Industry.

(4)      Promoting friendliness and good-fellowship among those engaged in Professional Estimating.

(5)      Fostering concerted actions through lectures, papers, and discussions for the purposes of enlightening those allied with the Construction Industry in the benefits of using Professional Estimators.

(6)      Encouraging and assisting in the development of the art of estimating the material and cost of construction jobs.

(7)      Maintaining a spirit of cooperation with similar organizations in the United States of America, with the object of standardization of preparing and presenting estimates in this country.”

Professional evaluation through Certification is one of the many ways the American Society of Professional Estimators endeavors to promote the profession and benefit the construction industry.

The founders of the Society sought to include estimators of all types of construction in the membership of ASPE. From residential construction, heavy construction, general construction, and specialty trade construction to the estimator who specializes in preparing conceptual estimates and those who prepare estimates from detailed plans and specifications. This array of highly skilled professionals was the “melting pot” envisioned by the Charter Members of the American Society of Professional Estimators when they organized in 1956.

Celebrate our 50th Anniversary with us by recognizing ASPE dedication to the promotion of the profession of estimating and the benefit of the construction industry using CPE’s!
